Halloween Costumes

Ladies (and gentlemen), is it me are costumes for this one day of year event getting sexier and sexier. Or should I say more and more outragous. I really shouldn't be critizing what women waer for I too participate in the festivites in a hot getup. for the sixth ( yes, sixth) year in a row I was Victoria's Secret angel. Had the wings, heels, robe and matching gown- in other words, the full nine yards.

Why got through so much trouble you might ask? I think my answer will be the same as other women. the 31st of October give us the chance to have a safe outlet to project an image of ourselves. It's a chance to have fun and to be creative, which bring me to an article that was written by the New York Times last Sunday. Essentially what it boils down to is that woman want a chance to be a see themselves a a vixen or sex kitten without the stigma of being lableled a slut or whore.

How I see it is this, ladies, whatever or whoever you chose to be this Haloween this year, rock those costumes proud.

This workshop took place at the Target National Design Education Center in the Cooper-hewitt Design Museum in New York City. These shirts are made of 100% cotton and machine washable. Target Go International: Flights of Fashion- 4th in line..Behnaz Sarafpour !!!.

On the 17th of this month Target offically released the album for the 4th Go International line- Behnaz Sarafpour.

Sarafpour, using a combination that is chic sleek, modern with a touch of romanticism, is very popular with young Hollywood and celebrity fashionista. Jessica Simpson, Rachel McAdams, and Asley Olsen are among a small sample of A-listers wearing her frocks.

Star items in this collection are the dresses and the outerwear. Beased on the description and the photos they will not disappoint avid fan and future devotees of the cheap chic line. The line concetrates on combining rich fabrics with simple clean silhouettes. The line emits an air of luxury using materials such as velvet, taffeta, satin, leather, lace, and silk georgette.

Unique Decorative Pattern In Chinese Decorative Arts
The "hundred antique" is a pattern that has been used on various objects including antiquities, scholars' objects, and three-dimensional decorative arts in all forms. This particular design reached its peak in the 17th century.
This design can particularly be found in Qing dynasty decorative arts. During this time peroid, this pattern was mixed with patterns of rebuses (a representation of words in the form of pictures or symbols, often as a puzzle) for good luck. This was seen as a way to make auspicious wishes come true. In this exhibit, the focus is on fashions and textiles from the 17th cent. to the late Qing dynasty with the "hundred antique" pattern.

Today I was at Koh's Kids located on 311 Greenwich St. (bet. Chambers & Reade Sts.), 212-791-6915. This TriBeCa store may be small but the quality and selection offered definitly make up for it. Despite the size of the place one never feels cramped. Clothes are well displayed and there is plenty of room to look around. The owner, Grace Koh, and her assistant are very nice ladies with an appreciation for good quality. They are currrently having a 50% sale off of select items and a 20% sale on Petit Bateau shirts. I was lucky enough to score a Kenzo Junior top and matching skirt for a total of $65. Top was $35 and the skirt was $30.

Last week, on my was to Blomingdales, I stopped by Natalie and Friends located on 205E. 60th St. (bet 2nd and 3rd Aves), 212-759-9077, http://www.natalieandfriends.com/. Owner Natalie Mayer has an amazing eye for fashion. With hip labels such as Sister Sam and Bella Ami displayed against bright walls, she has created a store that is fun for parents and kids. Her assistants were great. Natalie and her assistants were very patient and helpful. This store is willing doing do everyting that is possible within their means to please. One of the best things about this place is that Natalie keeps her store well stocked with items suiting all price ranges. Thanks to her. I found pair of super cute and comfy pink stripped pajama pants for less than $30.

England has produced one of the most style conscious societies in the world. London, the nation's capital, is a leading international fashion district. People flock from all parts of the globe to attend Fashion Week in this city every year. What is well known is British designers willingness and uncanny ability to push the envelope. What is not not so well known are the developments that has given birth what is now modern British fashion.
For the past thirty years, England has experienced lighting-speed evolutions in fashion and style. British designers, displaying extreme feats of artistic endevors, has made England one the most fashion foward countries in the world. Top examples of Bristish fashion include Eskandar, Luella Bartley, and Alexander McQueen. Each represent different facets of British glamour and bravado.
Despite the frequent changes in aesthetics, what has remained constant is the fact that designers look to the past to inspire the future. In honor of this practice, this special exhibit displays a wide array of British fashion from the past 30 years in the museum's English period rooms, showcasing the influential connection the past has on the present and future.

Target Go International: Flights of Fashion - the next in line is.... Paul &Joe !!!

Ever since Target launched the Go International: Flights of Fashion line, fashionistas everywhere have been swooning over these name label cheap chic threads. Making limited edition speciality diffusion lines with rotating designers has made Go International a go-to for hot wardrobe pieces. First there was British rock with school girl charm English designer Luella Bartley . Following her was uber-feminine and sophisticated French-Canadian designer Tara Jarmon

Alas, Tara time is about to end. Like Luella, she has had great success at Target. I will be sad to see her go. However as one door closes for us fashionistas, another one opens. Target has recently issued a press release for their newest addition- Paul and Joe by Sophie Albou. She is a French deisgner that produces fresh, vibrant, girly pieces that are romantic with a modern twist. Her line is not to be missed.

Being a Frugal Fashionista

I'll be honest. I have an open love affair with fashionable clothes and beauty products. I, in some ways, can identify with the heroine in the popular chick-lit book Shopoholic. Over the year I have learned many lessons when it comes to style.

Being stylish in beautiful clothes = tres chic
Being swarmed in debt via shopping = not tres chic
Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with having splurges. The key is to having enough to enjoy these purchaces without the guilt. I'm a firm believer that there are things worth splurging and that there are things that can and should be in the save column.For those of you that love fashion and want to dress well without breaking the bank this is a must read. The Difference Between Fashion and Style

Perhaps its the the massive summer sales or the frequent perusing of fashion magazines but I have been spending a lot of thime trying to figure out what the difference between fashion and style is. Granted that the two terms are inter-related.

This is what I found on the Merriam-Webster online dictionary-
FASHION is the most general term and applies to any way of dressing, behaving, writing, or performing that is favored at any one time or place .
STYLE often implies a distinctive fashion adopted by people of taste

In my personal opinion what seperates style and fashion is that style imples not only personal taste but timlessness. Being fashionable means one dresses and behaves in a way that is current in vouge, obeying pratically trend and fad religiously . Thus the existence of the much scrutinized IN/OUT columns in popular fashion/style perodical. Being stylish is much more personal than just wearing the latest jeans. It is the ability to use fashion as a tool to reflect an image and/or personality. Those who understand the power of style know how to carry themselves well with beauty, grace, and confidence.
